Book Review

American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

What if gods really did exist subject to our faith in them.  Not just professed faith, but manifest through our works.  What we do for the gods, how much we sacrifice for them.  So when people immigrated to America they brought their old gods with them.  Odin.  Oester.  A whole host of the old gods you'd expect and innumerable whose names we've all but forgotten.  Gods that are now weak or dying if they're not already dead.

But now we put our faith in new gods.  Media.  Technology.  Automobiles.  I like how Gaiman describes Automobile gods as the recipients of human sacrifice to a degree not seen since the Aztecs.

There's a storm brewing when the old & new clash.  The story is about how a man named Shadow gets caught up in it.  Or at least that's the plot.  The story is about faith and sacrifice.  And it is good.  So very, very good.
