One of Becky's best subjects is, of course, Tabby.

 

 

She also likes taking pictures of Tabby & me holding hands.

 

Remember that Becky likes taking pictures at Fonferek Falls?  We went hiking around there as a family once.  Or a couple times. This is one of them.

 

We saw a snake there.  I guess this is an eastern milk snake.

Becky found some nice spots out by the zoo.

One day we visited Jack in Sheboygan.

Becky invited a family from church, the Raus, to come out to Bayshore park with us for pictures one evening.  As she was taking their picture by a tree she turned and caught this one of me.  Then promptly told me to get out of the way, she was moving the Raus there to get a picture of them before the sun disappeared.

Early in the photography class Becky just finished (with a solid A!) she had an assignment to capture an emotion without showing faces.  10 of them.  That was a challenging creative endeavor.  Becky worked very hard and did an awesome job.  Here are a few.  I especially like this first one of Tabby in line for the ride at Bay Beach.

Of course, while at Bay Beach, Becky also took some pictures that were just for fun rather than for class.

For her midterm assignment (I think?) she had to pick a community related theme and create a portfolio of pictures showcasing it.  Becky picked the Fox River as her theme.

Another assignment Becky had was to take a picture of anything... like these next two of kids playing in a fountain or Ben sitting on a river bank at Pamperin Park.  Then she had to change the picture from something normal to extraordinary by altering something such as lighting or perspective.

For one of her class assignments Becky had to take pictures that captured "texture".  So she went to a florist shop, found some good textured shots, then took a bunch more.

One place Becky likes to take pictures is on the beach at Bay Shore park.  It's about 15 miles northeast of Green Bay, mostly rocks, but with a gorgeous view of the Bay.  For this shot she got right down on her belly for a good perspective of the rocks at the waters' edge, then stitched several together for a panorama.

I am so backed up on pictures Becky has taken that need to be posted.  So I'll just start posting a few at a time.  Starting with a panorama she created this spring of a place called Fonferek Falls, just a few minutes southeast of Green Bay.

She & I went driving one night and found a spectacular sunset.

She and Ben went out to shoot.

Also during the spring thaw she got some pictures at Wequiok falls on the east side of Green Bay.

She caught some cool pictures of the moon that night.

Our family went out to a park in Wrightstown.

I think she went to Fonferek again.  In fact, I know she went a bunch of times.  I think these were taken there.

Yay Becky!

A few weeks ago at some store Becky ran into one of the women she interviewed with for a job at the library back at the beginning of the year. I think. I don't really remember when, but it was a while ago. They had, like, 600 applicants for four positions. Becky got through their entire application, testing, interviewing process incredibly well and was told she was one of their top applicants, but they could only hire four. They'd keep her information on file and might be hiring again later in the year. So anyway, Becky asked if that was happening yet and was told, "I'm sorry no, we don't have any plans to hire in the near future." So they chatted a bit and went on their ways.

A couple days later Becky got a phone call from the woman. "One of our employees just turned in her notice today. Would you like a job?"

They did a background check. Becky did the drug testing. She starts work on 8/15 as a shelver at the Ashwaubenon branch of the Brown County Library.

Zimmerman part 2

Did Trayvon Martin have the right to stand his ground? Or does that only apply if you're holding a gun?

Trayvon Martin should have been able to walk down a neighborhood street unmolested. It was wrong of George Zimmerman to tail him. It was wrong of Zimmerman to confront him. Zimmerman went out of his way to let Martin know, "hey, you're not welcome here." In the world according to Jack, a guy like that deserves a good ass-whuppin'. If he shoots someone to death for giving him the ass-whuppin' he deserves, he should go to prison.

Unfortunately, George Zimmerman didn't shoot Trayvon Martin in Jack's world. He shot him Florida where, apparently, it is legal to start an altercation and if it doesn't go down like you imagined it in your head, you can kill the other guy. In fact, maybe you even should kill the other guy. There are several minutes of uncooberated events that ocurred during this altercation. What words were exchanged? Did Zimmerman approach him with his gun in hand? Did Martin fear for his safety? Who took the first swing? Kind of fortunate for Zimmerman, isn't it, that he's the only person who can answer those questions.

Trayvon Martin did a brave thing when he stood up to George Zimmerman. Not necessarily a smart thing, being that he was an unarmed teenager standing up to an armed adult, but a brave thing. I guess I've never heard anyone accuse adolescent young men of having too much common sense, right? If anyone stood his ground that night, though, it was Trayvon Martin who had every right to be out on that street, who was doing nothing wrong, nothing even out of the ordinary and yet found himself harrassed by an intolerant, self righteous prick.

Consider this about stand your ground firearm laws. If a state wants to put a man to death it has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the man has already committed a murder. Under stand your ground laws, any one of us can sentence a man to die based on what we suspect he might do in the near future. It's like some post-apocalyptic comic book scenario. Every citizen is commissioned as judge, jury, executioner, and can make their judgements based on some sort of extrasensory clairvoyance.

From what I understand of the events that ocurred that night, the jury probably made the correct legal decision. That doesn't lend even an ounce of legitimacy to what happened, though. It merely illustrates just how bad stand your ground laws are. This was the nightmare scenario. George Zimmerman, legally, got away with murder.
